Attending Art School in Austin

Austin, Texas, is a fantastic place to pursue an art education. Known for its thriving music scene and quirky aesthetic sense (the city’s motto is “Keep Austin Weird”), Austin is home to a number of great art programs, most notably the undergraduate and graduate studies at UT Austin. UT’s programs are exceedingly diverse and offer vast room for customization; the studio art major alone moves over a number of disciplines, allowing students to concentrate on whatever medium they find best suited to their artistic needs. But consistently wonderful art education isn’t the only thing drawing prospective students to this city, though it’s most certainly an important perk; the moderately affordable rents (one bedroom apartments run anywhere from $600 to $800) and gorgeous atmosphere (three man-made lakes in one city!) make it a prime location for the fostering of creative minds. And you’ll never be lacking in entertainment; Austin’s 6th Street boasts more nightclubs per capita than any other U.S. region and the infamous film and music festival South by Southwest is held in the city every year. If you’re looking for an eccentric (and highly credible) art education in a beautiful environment, Austin, Texas, is truly the place to be.
