Attending Art School in Atlanta

Unlike the usual complaints concerning the absence of culture and arts in many southern cities, Atlanta poses the problem of having too much to do- how is one to choose? From Art Monday’s at the Apache Café to innumerable art festivals, including the Inman Park Festival, Summerfest, and Sweet Auburn Springest, Atlanta’s art scene has kept pace with the overall growth of the city. This year marked the inaugural exhibition of Art in Freedom Park, a free event that successfully brought art to the public in the interest of furthering art appreciation. Additionally, the city’s Woodruff Arts Center, located in the Midtown district, is the heart of the art community and houses the High Museum of Art, as well as the Atlanta College of Art.  The Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, a Gothic-Tudor style mansion, offers gallery exhibitions and outreach programs. Art students considering schools in Atlanta will enjoy the endless studios and galleries throughout the city, which are as diverse as they are numerous. The top art schools within the Atlanta city limits include the Atlanta College of Art and the Art Institute of Atlanta. Furthermore, the art programs offered at Emory and Georgia State are also worthy of consideration. Attending an art school in such a large city enables the average student to experience art in every form, helping to refine his or her own artistic vision. The common characterization of the city as “Hotlanta” not only serves to adequately describe the weather, but also the electrifying art scene. If you really want to know about the Atlanta art scene check out the biggest and best known atlanta art site (artinatlanta.com).
