As Maine residents can tell you, their state is a proud supporter of public arts, which makes it an ideal place for you to pursue an art or design education. Maine's natural beauty is truly an inspiration for aspiring artists, with picturesque meadows and quaint seaside villages blanketing the landscape. In addition, Maine celebrates the role of the arts in public culture. In 1979, the state passed a law that allocated 1% of the state's funding to arts promotion. In its nearly three decades of implementation, the law has commissioned roughly 1,300 artworks in 400 public spaces throughout the state.
